Overview
About the project
Jewellery retail runs on numbers that change every morning. A piece's price depends on the day's gold or silver rate, its purity, its net weight and the making charges - so fixed-price e-commerce templates don't fit, and many jewellers still manage stock, billing and customer balances on paper or spreadsheets.
We designed and built a clickable prototype of the whole system for a demo brand, Ambey Jewellers: a public storefront, a signed-in customer portal and a staff back office. It demonstrates the complete workflow end to end - from the owner updating the day's rate, to a customer browsing live-priced designs, to billing, invoicing and settling a balance.
Solution areas
- Jewellery e-commerce website
- Jewellery shop website design
- Online jewellery store
- Jewellery portfolio & catalogue website
- Jewellery shop management software
- Jewellery billing & GST invoicing
- Live gold & silver rate pricing
- Jewellery inventory management
- Customer ledger for jewellers
- Jewelry e-commerce (US)
The challenge
Prices have to be recalculated from live inputs - metal rate, purity, weight and several kinds of making charge - yet an invoice must never change once it's issued. The same data has to serve three very different audiences (shoppers, customers with running balances, and staff with different responsibilities) without exposing one customer's information to another.
Our solution
A single pricing engine drives every screen: storefront prices follow the day's rate instantly, while each invoice line stores the rate it was sold at. Customers get a self-service portal for their own invoices, purchases and ledger; staff get billing, inventory, a debit/credit ledger and reports, gated by a role-and-permission model that mirrors how a jewellery store actually works.
What it does
Key features
-
Rate-driven pricing engine
Prices are built from the day's 24K gold / 999 silver rate, purity factors (22K, 18K, 14K, 925), net weight, and making charges set as a fixed amount, per gram or a percentage.
-
Rate-change impact preview
Before saving a new daily rate, the owner sees how many products go up or down and how the total stock value changes - alongside a rate history chart.
-
Billing & tax invoices
A three-step billing flow with editable lines, discounts and part payments; sequential invoice numbers, an optional GST rate, branded PDF and print, and automatic stock deduction.
-
Customer ledger
A running debit/credit balance per customer covering payments, advances, loans, credit and debit notes - including old gold bought back from customers.
-
Customer self-service portal
Customers see their purchases, invoices (PDF download), payments and ledger, export statements to Excel or CSV, and manage a wishlist and inquiries.
-
Smart catalogue & zoom
Search by name or product code, filter by category, metal, purity, price and weight, five sort orders, a mobile filter sheet, and a magnifier lens with full-screen high-resolution zoom.
-
WhatsApp-first enquiries
One-tap WhatsApp enquiries from product pages with the product pre-filled, plus in-app purchase requests and inquiries that staff follow up from the back office.
-
Reports & data tools
Eight reports (sales, purchases, outstanding, product-wise, customer ledger, rate history, staff performance, stock), a KPI dashboard, Excel export, and Excel/CSV customer import with automatic column matching.
Trust by design
Security & data protection
-
Role-based staff access
Four roles - owner, manager, sales and accountant - across twelve granular permissions, with per-employee overrides. The last active owner can never be deactivated, so the store can't lock itself out.
-
Customers see only their own data
The customer portal only shows the signed-in customer's own invoices, purchases and ledger; opening another customer's invoice is refused.
-
No card data collected
Payments are made by UPI or bank transfer and reconciled in the ledger - the system never asks for or stores card details.
-
Tamper-evident records
Invoice lines store the rate at the time of sale, so issued invoices never reprice, and staff actions are recorded in an activity log.
-
Backup & restore
The full dataset can be exported as a backup file and restored, with a structure check before anything is overwritten.
-
Safer uploads
Product image uploads are checked for image type and compressed before saving; spreadsheet imports accept only spreadsheet formats.
Prototype note: This is a clickable prototype: data is stored in the browser and access checks run in the app itself. The production architecture moves authentication, hashed passwords, permission checks and all data to a secured server (Node.js with NestJS, PostgreSQL and Prisma), with server-side validation.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Can Zynovate build a jewellery e-commerce website?
Yes. This case study shows a jewellery e-commerce website we designed and built: a storefront with live metal-rate pricing, a filterable catalogue, product zoom, WhatsApp enquiries and a customer portal. It was built as a clickable prototype for a demo brand; a production build adds a secure server, database and authentication.
Does the jewellery website update prices with the daily gold rate?
Yes. The owner enters the day's 24K gold and 999 silver rates, and every product price is recalculated from its purity, net weight and making, polish and packing charges. Issued invoices keep the rate at the time of sale, so they never reprice.
Can it work as jewellery shop management software?
Yes. Alongside the online store it covers billing with GST tax invoices, stock, purchases including old gold bought back from customers, a debit/credit customer ledger, staff roles and permissions, and eight business reports.
Can it be used as a jewellery portfolio or catalogue website without online payments?
Yes. The catalogue works on its own, with product enquiries by WhatsApp and in-app purchase requests. Payments are taken by UPI or bank transfer and recorded in the ledger - the system never collects card details.
Is Ambey Jewellers a real store?
No. Ambey Jewellers is a demo brand we created to design and test the complete workflow. We adapt the same system to a real jewellery shop's products, pricing rules, branding and processes.
